Clean Typing Test is an independent project: a free, simple typing test that respects your time and your privacy.
Why this site exists
Checking your typing speed should take seconds. You should not need an account, and you should be able to understand how your score was worked out. This site was built around those ideas.
How the test is scored
Every test uses the same published formulas. A standard word is 5 characters, and your speed comes from the correct characters in your finished text. Accuracy counts every keystroke, so a corrected mistake still counts against it. You can readthe full explanation of how WPM is calculated.
Your privacy
What you type is never sent anywhere. Your results and settings are stored only in your own browser, and your stats page has a button to erase them. Theprivacy policy has the details.
How the articles are written
The blog gives practical advice and links to the research behind any figures it quotes, so you can check them yourself. Rough guides that are our own opinion are labelled as such. If you spot a mistake, please let us know.
